Ploermel
Ploermel church (St Armel) has impressive stained glass and granite tombstones. In the church there is also an astronomical clock that has ten panels of the solar system; the clock is listed as a national French monument. In 2006 a statue of Pope John Paul II was erected in the town.
The Maison de Marmousets in Rue Beaumanoir is the most famous landmark in the town and has some marvellous wood sculptures on its facade.
Today Ploermel is a lively modern town. In May, the Ploërmel carnival is the biggest in Brittany.
Ploermel rests on the edge of Paimpont forest: a stunning primeval forest probably most famous for its association with the legends of King Arthur and Merlin; and the Voie Vert, a 40 kilometer hiking trail.
Part of the Voie Vert passes the Lac au Duc, at Ploërmel. The Lac au Duc has a large, clean sandy beach and a swimming pool. At the lake you will find sailing, water-skiing, pedalos and fishing; as well as tennis courts and a nine hole golf course.
