Pontivy
Pennerest Gites are only 7km away from the beautiful, historic town of Pontivy. Founded in the 7th century the town has developed around the confluence of the river Blavet and the Nantes to Brest canal. The town is a mixture of winding medieval streets, some pedestrianised, and wide stately avenues designed with Napoleans influence.
Today Pontivy has a good variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Every Monday morning there is a large, busy outdoor market in the town.
The impressive 15th century chateau of the dukes of Rohan is open to the public (with different exhibitions throughout the year), as are the Notre-Dame-de-Joie basilica and Saint Josephs church.
Every year the finals of Bohl (a Breton music festival/ competition) are held in Pontivy.
